Library Trip, Reading Program, and a (cool?) Video

Remember when I posted about the Summer Reading Program? I finished it. ๐Ÿ˜€

Y’all I finished the library reading program!!! I actually finished it a few weeks ago, but this week we visited the library to collect our prizes. ๐Ÿ™‚

After helping the little girls find a whole bunch of books in the childrens’ section, I went on a search for a few titles Kate had mentioned before I left… and ended up lugging a huge stack of interesting looking books back to the table Mom had staked out.

three books I randomly found, including 1 re-read

But we keep checking out waay more books than our library’s limit by accident, so I had to cut down my book stack until it looked like this…

img_20180622_22214262254641.jpg

Gossamer— I really meant to pick upย Messanger,ย sequel toย The Giver ( โค )ย , but I might still try this one. ๐Ÿ˜‰ The cover, you guys!!! It sparkles!

The Princess and Curdie— Slightly odd but definitely fun, I listened to the first book on audio and very much enjoyed it. Can’t wait to launch into this sequel! Hopefully it will live up to the first one. ๐Ÿ˜›

Spy Camp— This could turn out weird, but I’m excited to try it. ๐Ÿ™‚ The second book in the series (idk why I can’t seem to start with the first ones in series…), this looks so funny and cool and epic.

My Brother’s Secret— Nazi youth, secret resistance groups, smuggling after curfew… YES PLEASE!!! By the same author as the one I just read and just as intriguing, this is probably what I’ll end up reading next. ๐Ÿ˜‰

My Friend the Enemy— I just finished reading this! I honestly picked this up on a whim, walking past a shelf and seeing the cool spine. I included a mini-review lower down…

Next in the stack is an epic “Rogue One” book with timelines and everything (except it ends before the end, aka with everyone still alive), a neato spy book (I’ve always been slightly obsessed), two Bink & Gollie books (adorable!!!), and yet another spy book. XD

(I enjoyed ‘journaling’ as I read and even scrawled random quotes from literature in the margins. How many quotes do you recognize? ^^)

Y’all, I made a video for you. ๐Ÿ˜€ It’s probably way too long for a vlog? Idk, but it was fun to make and I hope you enjoy my silly attempt at a first-ever vlog. ๐Ÿ˜›

In this video I show you the prizes I received from the library, give mini-reviews of each book I read during the reading program, and briefly tell aboutย My Friend the Enemy and what I thought. ๐Ÿ™‚ Also, cameos of Paul and Kate included. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Cringe count? jk Don’t tell me!!! I’ll try to do better if there’s a next time. ๐Ÿ˜€ (Big thanks to Kate for reading on the front porch so I could film this! And for not laughing out loud over my awkwardness.)

What books have you read so far this summer? Should I do more vlog type things? Do you ever journal about books? Till later! ~A

          1. I read The Lost Clue, To Have And To Hold, the Men of Grit series and The Prisoners of the Sea.
            Yeah… that’s it. ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜€
            Any good book suggestions?

            1. Wow that’s actually quite a few books!!! I LOVE The Lost Clue, but haven’t read any of the others. If I were to read one of them which one would you recommend?
Hmm… I’ll think on it. Idk what kinds of books you like! A Man Called Peter by Catherine Marshall is really good. Johnny Tremain, Carry on Mr. Bowditch, and Calico Bush too. ๐Ÿ™‚

              1. Yeah, I guess. Compared to how many you’ve probably read, 8 is nothing. XD
Hmmmm, they’re all pretty good. The Prisoners of the Sea is probably the best out of all of them though.
I guess my favorite genre of books is historical fiction. Like that’s all I’ve ever read. ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜Œ
I watched the movie version of A Man Called Peter and it was super good, so I’m sure the book is super good too. ๐Ÿ˜€

                1. Lol Idk, I’m terrible at keeping track of what I’ve read so you could be completely wrong… I was pretty busy in Spring. And 8 books is a lot for a guy who told me he doesn’t really read. ๐Ÿ˜›
Ah cool! I’ve heard good and bad things about that book. I guess I’ll just have to try it! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Oh I am so almost a historical-fiction-only reader just because that’s what I tend to enjoy the most! It’s only recently that I’ve found some modern, and dystopian, and even a fantasy– books that I liked!
YES!!! That movie was so so good. I hate the ending though. Sorry for spoiling that it was sad when I told you guys to watch it.. heehee. ๐Ÿ™ˆ But it is SO sad. The book is worse. Better. Amazing-er. Deeper. Wow. Just go read it. And it’s a true story written by the guy’s wife!! Wish I could have met him… He was such a neat man of God.

                2. Hey, I think I said I read a *little* bit. ๐Ÿ˜‚
Yes, try it!!! It’s super good! I read the first half, but then I couldn’t wait to see how it’d end so I just read the last few pages. ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ™ˆ I went back and read the whole thing though. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
That’s why I read historical fiction too. xD (wellll, more like because that’s whats mainly in the bookself)
I agree!! It’s one of the best I’ve seen. And yeah, the ending was so horrible…๐Ÿ˜ญ Lol, I watched the whole movie anticipating something horrible was going to happen. So thanks for warning me. ๐Ÿ˜‚
I’ll definitely read it next. Peter Marshall was really a good example of a godly man being concerned with what God wants him to do. I’m sure the book exemplifies that even more!

  1. Yes, do more vlogs!! It was fun and Paul was so funny too. XD
All those books look really great, especially the WW2 ones!! I started the “The Real Spy’s Guide”. It’s so neat!! And I agree, Bink and Gollie is pretty cute. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Lol, this was awesome! “My friend, the Enemyโ€ sounds really cool. I want to read it now… Your video was AWESOME!!! You didnโ€™t fail; that was epic. โค And hilarious…(Good job, Paul… :P) Haha, that button is funny! XD
WHAT?! YOU GOT IN IN SPANISH??? Thatโ€™s too funny. Youโ€™ll have to send it to me, then… Jk, I donโ€™t really like reading in Spanish, cuz I only get three quarters of what itโ€™s saying, and it takes me FOREVER to read… But seriously, I wonder why it didn't say it was in Spanish? Hopefully you can send it back, and pick one out in English… Or just learn Spanish… ๐Ÿ˜›
Good job on your first video. ๐Ÿ™‚ Iโ€™m not worrying, since thereโ€™s gonna be more. ๐Ÿ˜› I enjoy vlogging a lot, too. I havenโ€™t done it a lot, but Iโ€™ve done a few ministry videos, like when our family went up to the mountains. Did you see that one on my blog?
    Great post! ๐Ÿ˜€

Aw thanks, you’re sweet! It was a bunch of fun to make but kinda silly/crazy too. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™ˆ
LOL ikr?! Even though I was laughing really hard it was actually sad that it came in Spanish because I was looking forward to reading it. lol ๐Ÿ˜‰ oh well!
That’s super you can read even a little bit of Spanish! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ It looks really jumbled and hard to me…

haha I guess you want more videos then? XD That’s encouraging!!

How cool! Yes, I think I did see it! You’re great at videos! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Yeah well, I am learning slowly, but surely! Thereโ€™s always lots more to learn. ๐Ÿ™‚ Even once Iโ€™m fluent.
        Yup, you guessed it. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Aw, thx! I enjoy making them. ๐Ÿ™‚
        Miss you too! XOXO

          1. Not really…….It’s a little after the Giver, but you have to read that before you read Messenger(which is like my favorite. It’s so good. I’m re-reading it…..again…….). ๐Ÿ˜›

      1. ๐Ÿ‘Š! We’ve done some reading challenges in the past, but this year we are not doing one. BUT, I do have a lot of books I plan to read this year (you can see the ones on my “want to read” list on Goodreads. Oh, and if you are on Goodreads, I’d like to follow you! ๐Ÿ˜‰). For instance, I’d like to read Wonder by R.J. Palacio (I think I spelled her name right) and The Worst Class Trip Ever by Dave Barry. I’ve only read the Kindle sample of that one, but so far it is like, literally the funniest book I have ever read ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
What’s the best book you’ve read so far this summer?

        Liked by 2 people

        1. Ah cool! (Sadly I’m not on Goodreads yet, but I’ll get Kate to let me snoop your to-read list. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜‰ And I hope to join sometime soon!!)
Ooooh “Wonder” sounds amAZing!! You’ll have to tell me what you think of it!! lol I recently peaked inside a book like that too and isn’t it so intriguing and terribly addicting?!! ๐Ÿ˜› Sounds like a fun book! For sure a funny title. ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Aaahh that is the. worst.question.ever. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Best book so far this summer?! I’d probably have to say either Love Comes Softly (surprised myself with liking that one lol), Kate’s Innocence, or My Friend the Enemy. But seriously, that’s an impossible question to answer… Almost all of them have been spectacular!! What about you?

          Liked by 2 people

          1. Tell me when you’re on Goodreads! ๐Ÿ˜‰
I saw the movie that the book Wonder was based on, and that was amazing, so I can only imagine what the book will be like. The movie gave me all the feels. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข
Umm, best book I’ve read all summer? Hmm, let’s see………..I think I’d have to say Rules by Cynthia Lord. It was surprisingly so good, and my sister loved it as well. And I think you would too ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š
(By the way, you were missed at the cabin yesterday ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข)

Sounds neato, I’ll have to look it up! Yay for book suggestions! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜‰
(Aw! I was so busy I didn’t get to jump on… I’ll try to pop in today! Aren’t the gals so fun?!!)

  3. OOHHHH! When You Reach Me is a book I’ll never stop fangirling over. xD I also bought First Light but have yet to read it. And I read the first 3 Giver books but… Messenger just kinda… was terrible. I haven’t bothered with Gossamer. =/ Love Comes Softly is amazing! I love good romance books. โ™ฅ
Aaaaand you’re not really missing out on Stargirl. I didn’t even finish it. 0-o

    1. YES!!! That one totally tricked me into thinking it was a cheesy middle grade book and then BOOM!! It messed my brain and heart up for daaays. ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ญ I loved that you recognized it just from the spine. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘Š Isn’t the cover waay too cool after reading the whole thing?!!! So meaningful…
Oh neato! I still want to try it out, considering the other two books by that author were so good. Once you read it you’ll have to let me know what you think! ๐Ÿ‘
Ooh good to know, though I think I’ll still be reading Messenger (for sake of the series, ya know? I’m like that… ๐Ÿ˜œ) since some people have been begging me too. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Eeek but it has such a darling cover!!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™โค Sad you didn’t make it through… ๐Ÿ˜ข Maybe the story will be better in Spanish? Jk jk

    1. Hey! Thanks Amie!! lol Yes, he was pretty pleased with his joke. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Um yeah… The thing is I totally agree with you because same– usually it would be me doing that to prank someone. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜‚ So I probably deserved it. hehe

      1. Eventually the pranksters get pranked. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I think my favorite part of the video, though, was when you realized the book was in Spanish! Have you found out if you can exchange the book yet?

Lol! Oh dear… That was surprising. ๐Ÿ˜‚ You can see my face in the actual video kinda go “uuhhh”. ๐Ÿ˜œ Then I’m like “just go with it!” Heehee. Glad you enjoyed it! ๐Ÿ™‚
Not yet, I really should contact the library and ask! Oh dear… *hides* I’ll be like “um, so, I don’t speak or read Spanish… Can I have a new book?” Lol #nerdtothemax #bookdesperate
